Alaknanda River Expedition | Kali Sarda Expedition

Alaknanda River Expedition

AREA: Uttaranchal Pradesh
DURATION : 6/7 Days
GRADE : Moderate
RIVER GRADE : III
SEASON : October - November and February through April

A self contained multi day trip down the Alaknanda and Ganga rivers. All food, camping personal gear is carried on the rafts - there being no road support on the Alaknanda section of the river. The trip starts from the town of Rudraprayag situated at the confluence of the Mandakini and the Alaknanda rivers, 139 kms beyond Rishikesh . The towns claim to fame is the infamous man-eating leopard of Rudraprayag, shot here by Jim Corbett in 1932. ( Ref. Corbetts book - Man eating Leopard of Rudraprayag).

The Alaknanda offers a Grade III run through it's beautiful gorge and valley - steep wooded hillsides, deserted coves of sparkling sand to camp on, textured rock cliffs, old temple towns and little villages.

This is an enchanting trip, suitable even for the first timer. Offering white water excitement as well as the feel of the great river and it's environs.

All participants are required to pitch in and help with setting up camps and preparing rafts etc, during the self contained days of the trip, till such time as we reach the luxuries of Base Camp.
